- It is 2081 and the state thinks everyone should be equal.  I had an above average IQ, so the state controls my thoughts.  They put a radio in my ear and every 20 seconds they blast a noise in  my ear.  I wear a bag of birdshot on my back.
- Poor George!  I am lucky.  I have a normal  IQ.
- The TV Program shows dancing ballerinas. All ballerinas have the same masks and have bags of birdshot around their waists.  This way no one is prettier than another and no one is more graceful than another.They are all the same.
- NEWSFLASH
- Harrison Bergeron has just be taken to jail.  The 14-year old athlete and genius is considered dangerous to the state. He has been covered in scrap metal. His eyebrows were shaved off and a red rubber ball was placed on his nose.
- I am the emperor!
- Suddenly there seemed to be an earthquake as Harrison appeared in the TV studio.  He tore off his scrape metal which crashed to the floor. He tore off his red nose revealing his handsome face.He and one of the ballerinas began to dance around the floor.
- Then, the Handicapper General arrived with a shotgun.Two shots rang out and Harrison and the ballerina wre dead!
- This is the story of a government that tried to make everyone equal or the same. To do this the leaders had to destroy intelligence so no one could be smarter and destroy beauty so no one could be prettier or more handsome.  To accomplish this they regulated the minds of the intelligent, jailed geniuses and hid faces and bodies behind masks and scrape metal.While people can never be made to be completely the same, a government can control information and therefore control what people think and can use force to control people who don't agree.
