After the creation of the lightbulb, employees were made to work longer hours. This allowed for the working conditions to grow harsh and dangerous. They breathed in chemicals, had no breaks, and lost contact with employers. The workers grew tired of these conditions and started a labor union to protest against the treatment. They would go on strike, making it impossible to do daily work task. There was an high demand for workers during this time. Between 1800-1869 6million immigrants came to America in search of new life. Asian immigrants would pass through Angel Island and experienced discrimination, rough treatment, and disrespect. They were in search for a new life, new jobs, a fresh start and received harassment .
