- The supreme court just ruled against affirmative action and I don't really know what that means
- Ahhh yeah I saw, what it means is that college administrations cannot give special treatment to people based on race or national origin. Kind of a step back for equality

- Forgive me but that sounds like it got us closer to equality. I mean if we are all equal then nobody should get a step up just because of their race
- A lot of people think that way. The issue here is that most of those that benefited from affirmative action have been at a disadvantage due to things like redlining

- Redlining? Yeah I think heard of that before, it was very popular during the mid 1900s right? Especially in places like Milwuakee?
- Essentially it was the withholding of financial aid and opportunities to neighborhoods with high African American population. This has effected generations of families financially

- Oh yeah thats right, after that was the war on drugs right? I'm sure that had an effect aswell
- yes it did, with thefinancial hardship that came from redlining, mass incarcerations amplified the issue even more. Without the support of family, it was hard for children to get a good education

- I didn't even know that. Has it always been this bad
- For the most part yes, but actually during the JFK administration, he pushed for more federal aid to be given to marginalized groups and succeeded but once Regean took office, he rolled back in the aid.

- Well I guess my lastquestion is how this will benefit society?
- Well other than getting closer to equality (something that America promised all). I can help companies reach new demographics and expand their market.
