President Andrew Jackson got the Indian Removal Act of 1830 passed on Native Americans east of the Mississippi River.
Indian Removal Act
The Native Americans were threatened and forced to leave their homes.
Leave or die
The Natives were not happy and the Cherokee tribe took their case to court which they won but still were forced at gunpoint to leave.
It took a long time to travel to the so called Native American land and they had to travel through the harsh conditions with a low supply of essential needs.
One fourth of the population died along the trail of tears.

The new territory was west of the Mississippi River. Many were unhappy about the new territory and loss. They thought that they were treated unfairly.
