- EXPOSITION
- The story introduces us to a group of boys that are hanging out in a treehosue; Gordie, Chris and Teddy. When suddenly another kid appears name Vern, asking them if they want to see a dead body

- CONFLICT
- You guys want to see a dead body?
- The group of children decides to go out into the woods to find the body that Vern told them, but realized that no one brought food or water apart from Chris and Teddy. Suddenly a train appears with Chris yelling "Train!" and Vern jumped out of the rail while Teddy wanted to dodge it

- RISING ACTION
- Realizing that they got no food, they decided to go to the dump. They encounter Milo Pressman and his dog Chopper, who has a terrible reputation among children and men. Scared of them, Teddy and Vern start collecting water while the other two watch

- CLIMAX
- Through their travesy into the woods, with many difficulties, the group of children finds the dead body. Suddenly Ace Merrill's gang was there with the same purpose of reporting the body an become famous.

- FALLING ACTION
- The boys decided to return back their homes, after being away from their families for an entire day. They are, most likely, going to get beaten when they arrive. No one noticed the absence of Gordie when he returned back home

- RESOLUTION
- The story travels through time with Gordie being an adult and a famous writer. His friends from childhood had died from many different reasons. He writes about them in order to honor his loyal childhood friends
