Debate: Should phones be allowed at school?

- Phones should be allowed in school because it is an emergancy contact, it's an easy way to access information, and it saves money for the school. There are lots of reasons why phones should be allowed in school.
- Phones shouldn't be allowed in school because they are distracting, young kids dont have a lot of self control to not play games on thier phone, and lastly kids need the social interaction that school has. There are so many more reasons why phones shouldn't be allowed in school.
- One reason that phones should be allowed in school is beacuase it is an emergency contact. If Something major happens during school and you need to call someone then you have a phone. And If somehting happens with a kid and they need to get out of school or is to embaressed to call from the office they can text their parents from their phone.
- I see how you can think that but having a phone in school can cause a lot of distraction. Kids will have their phone in their backpacks and want to play games which will cause distraction from the schoolwork that they should be doing.
- That is a good point but when students are doing school work that involves research or they need a calculator a phone has all of thde tools for that. And I know that we already have calculators but by having one small device that you can carry in your pocket it will laso save you storage in your backpack.
- I understnad what you are saying but young kids dont have a lot of self control over themsleves. If they have their phone in their backpack or in their pocket then they will be tempted to go on their phone and play games, which will just cause more distractions and could lead to them getting in trouble.
- That is a good point but another reasont that phones should be allowed in school is because it will save money for the school. By kids being alowed to have phones in school we wont need to buy as many chromebooks. In elemantary level school kids will probably not have a phone yet, but by middle school most kids will have a phone so instead of having to carry around a big chromebook they can carry around a small phone. This will lead to the school saving some money which they can use on other things.
- Wow that is a good point but while kids love to be on their phone they still need the social interaction. If kids have thier phone all day then they will be worried about what is on the screen and not what is going on in real life. This problem can cause people to not make friends or become less social which wont be good for them when they get older.
- You do make a good point but when kids will have their phones at school then it can make it easier for teachers to reach out to the kids. Most adults have access to a phone and know how to work it. If a teacher needs to contact a class then she can send out a message to her class and they will easily be able to see the message and be helped with their school. This also saves time for the teachers by not having to do a bunch of emails on a computer.
- yes I understand how you would think that but kids having their phone twenty four seven can cause a lot of problems. At night teens will go on their phone and watch videos all nigth this will cause anxiety and make people very tired throughout the day. This will affect the way that they work. Kids need to have a break from all social media and should not have to worry about going to sleep.
- You made some very good points but I still have to believe that kids should be allowed to bring their pones into school. Their are so many reasons why it would be a helpful tool.
