Pineda sailed out to Jamaica to map the coast of the gulf of Mexico in 1519. He became the first European to observe Texas. He did not finish his mission though.

La Salle
Cortez
Cabeza de Vaca was exploring Flordia as a member. The expedition got lost and they were forced to build boats back to Mexico. There was a hurricane and they got caught in the hurricane and got shipwrecked on the Galveston island.The Gulf Indians saw them and gave them food and shelter.
In 1685, a famous person La Salle sailed out with 4 ships full of supples and colonists. He lost one of the ships along the way. He then arrived to the bay in Texas. He tried to build a fort and get along with the Indians, but he did not get along with them. The colony also struggled with problems with droughts, and disease. During 1687 La salle was killed by his own men.

During 1519, the Actects viewed Cortez and his men as gods because of their weapons. The spanish were able to overthrow the aztacts. This gave Spain a free area of mainland to use a base of opeations, they were very rich.
