This is a pivotal moment in the book because of how in scene 1 act 3, Mercutio will die because of Tybalt's hatred.

Oh God, did Romeo's hand shed Tybalt's blood?(3.3.72)
This is important because of how Juliet finally hears the news of her cousin dying, but the news are one-sided, not telling her that Tybalt, her cousin, has killed Mercuitio first. Showing that her famliy does not want to take the blame for. And Juliet realizes that Tybalt must've done something to Romeo.

This moment shows how much Romeo truly loves Juliet, willing to die, and is probably having a mental breakdown about being banished, rather being killed instead. Thinking this fate, is worse then death.
