"But maybe, if I give it a shot, I could actually be good at this."
Ghost feels insecure when he first watches the Defenders practicing, wondering if he can ever evolve into the kind of runner who belongs on the track team.

Ghost is eating lunch when Brandon starts churlishly making fun of him.

“What’s wrong with my shoes? They work just fine. You don’t need fancy stuff to run fast." Ghost states.
“You can't be serious, man. How are you supposed to run track in those? You look ridiculous,” Lu criticizes.
Ghost feels judged by society because of where he comes from and the clothes he wears, making him feel discordant with the other kids at school and on the track team
