On June 18th, 1816, Gallaudet and Clerc set sail across the Atlantic Ocean. The voyage took 52 days.

April 15th, 1817.
On April 15th, 1817, Gallaudet and Clerc opened the first American school for deaf people. It was called 'Connecticut Asylum at Hartford for the Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons'. Students ranged from 10 to 51 years old.
