Hey, I was reading about antisocial personality disorder, or ASPD, and I thought it was really interesting because I learned that even though it is usually diagnosed in adulthood, signs can actually start appearing much earlier during childhood.

My cousin lied to me about not taking the last ice cream bar. Which reminds me, I learned that people with ASPD may lie, manipulate others, and sometimes show little or no remorse after doing something harmful, which can make relationships and interactions with other people difficult.

I recently read that researchers say warning signs can appear before age 15, such as conduct disorder. During childhood, some people may show behaviors such as being unusually cruel to animals or showing little concern for how their actions affect others.
Wow, I didn’t realize those behaviors could sometimes be warning signs because I thought people might just assume it was someone acting out or having behavior problems.

That makes sense, and researchers also believe there isn’t just one cause because both genetics and environmental factors, like childhood trauma or difficult family experiences, may contribute to someone developing ASPD.
Really? I always thought it was something people only started showing when they got older, so I didn’t know behaviors could appear years before an official diagnosis.
