  • Team Broncos Identifies a Need"Manufacturers are betting that the consumers who don’t have room for full-sized [washer and dryers] will pay handsomely for the privilege of an at-home option that fits their space” (Janeway, 2018).
  • After our initial research we determineda customer in a small apartment or home wants a more convenient and quick way to do their laundry.
  • A Google search on changing the direction of a washing machine door opening yields 142 million results of questions on forums and instructional videos, with few options for actual machines for sale with that capability.
  • We believe that one of the main problems our customers are trying to solve is finding a more convenient way to do laundry and avoid the hassle of going to the laundromat.
  • Possible Solutions
  • We conducted multiple types of ethnographic research including; journey mapping, interviewing for empathy, empathy mapping, and creating customer profiles.

  • Through our ethnographic research we determined that doors of the washer and dryer are a big issue in tight spaces, often interfering with walkways and other doors, causing unwanted congestion.
  • After multiple brainstorming sessions, we narrowed it down to three solutions and then ultimately picked one to create a prototype.
  • Team Broncos developed a roll up door for washers and dryers that will make transferring clothes from one unit to the other easier as well as make the units more usable in small spaces
