- The mass hysteria of witchcraft in Salem Village, Massachusetts started with a group of young girls. These girls claimed to be possessed by the devil and proceeded to accuse several local women of witchcraft.
- Trials first arose with a special court in Salem to hear the cases and prove women either guilty of witchcraft or innocent without charge.
- GUILTY
- Bridget Bishop was one of the first "witches" to be hanged.. Her execution took place the June of 1692.
- Hanged for business with the devil

- More than 150 men, women, and children were accused of dealing with the devil over the next few months.
- 19 men and women had been hung through the 9 months of hysteria.
- Witchcraft first erupted in the Parris household. Tituba, an enslaved women belonging to Samuel Parris, was accused of bewitching four Salem girls within the time frame of January to March.
