- He was fresh.The teacher spanked him and made him stand in a corner. Hewas awfully fresh.
- What did he do?
- Laurie's mom watches him go off the first morning with theolder girl next door, seeing that the era of her life hadended, her sweet-voiced nursery-school tot replaced by a long trousered, swaggering character who forgot to stop at the corner and wave good-bye to her.
- Climax
- Laurie came home the same way, the front door slammingopen, his cap on the floor, and the voice suddenly become raucous shouting, “Isn’t anybody here?”
- Falling Action
- I’ve been so anxious to meet you, I’m Laurie’smother.
- We’re all so interested in Laurie
- At lunch, he spoke to his parents about a naughty boy in his class named Charles.
- Resolution
- We don’t have any Charles in thekindergarten.
- Laurie's mom was restless at the meeting, scanning each comfortable matronly face, trying to determine which one hid the secret of Charles. None of them looked haggard enough to her. No one stood up in the meeting and apologized for the way her sonhad been acting. No one mentioned Charles.
- Who could it be?
- After the meeting she identified and sought out Laurie’skindergarten teacher. She had a plate with a cup of tea and a piece of chocolate cake; she had a plate with a cup of tea and a piece of marshmallow cake. They maneuvered up to one another cautiously and smiled.
- The teacher looked at Laurie's mom confused and tells her that there is no student named Charles in her class.
