Marie Tharp was a Geologist and oceanic cartographer.
Women were prohibited from joining some research projects at first and this made it difficult for her.
She would create detailed profiles of the ocean floor.
She believed in continental drift and at the time it sounded impossible so nobody believed her.
Marie Tharp's discoveries in contenental drift were later discovered to be true and many people were surprised.
Her discoveries were the first leading proof on how earthquakes and tectonic plates worked.
