- Displacement is the redirection of emotional impulses onto other sources, a type of defense mechanism theorized by Freud. When I had to submit my honors band audition in a limited time frame, I displaced my internal stress and pressure onto my family. I did this by being impatient and curt when they asked how my day had been.

- Alder theorized that in birth order, the oldest child is a rule follower, a leader, perfectionist, and cautious. As the oldest of two children, I often see these traits displayed in myself. I can be tightly wound because I often plan for events, sure to abide by guidelines, and prepare for all possible outcomes.

- Carl Rogers believed that empathy is a condition that facilitates growth, by tuning into the feelings of others and attempting to understand their emotions. As a hopeful healthcare worker, I believe that having empathy will be the most significant thing to success in medicine. If I can relate to my patients and empathize with them holistically (instead of seeing them as just as subjects), I can make a difference at my work.
- How Bandura Sees Me
- Costa and McCrae believed in the Five Factor Model, a personality assessment, observable early in life. This measures an individual's balance between five traits: abilities in being open, agreeable, neurotic, extraverted, and conscientious. The characteristic with the highest percentage in my personality is conscientiousness. This dominant trait means that I carry self-discipline and think thoroughly about my actions before carrying them out.

- Carl Jung theorized collective unconscious, a bank of imagery and symbols that is recognized across cultures. It also categorizes archetypes, which are universal symbolic images. When I was little, I remember being entertained by fairytales that were meant to teach simple lessons or themes. They contained characters acting as the "hero," "damsel in distress," "foolish sidekick," and others.
- Bandura believed in a social cognitive principle called "self-efficacy," how competent humans feel in accomplishing tasks. This is applicable to my life because if I feel unsure about a calculus concept, I will go into the assessment feeling weary and doubtful of my answers. Contrastingly, feeling more knowledgeable and confident in the material will also increase confidence on test day and allow me to perform better.
