Veel studenten kunnen erkennen dat er iets in verband met Kerstmis, Kwanzaa, of Hannukah, maar ze kunnen niet begrijpen waarom. Deze activiteit kan studenten een goede basis op symbolen en symboliek, of het kan worden gebruikt als een focus op de wintervakantie. Geef de leerlingen een lijst van symbolen voor alle vakanties, of laat ze symbolen op hun eigen te selecteren.
Het onderstaande voorbeeld wordt de grid lay-out, maar de spin kaart, traditionele storyboard, en T-chart zou zo goed werkt. Studenten moeten het symbool in de titel doos te noemen, maak een visuele voorstelling in het storyboard cel, en vervolgens uit te leggen wat het symbool staat in de beschrijving doos; of, zoals in het voorbeeld hieronder, naam en verbeelden het symbool, maak dan visualisaties!
