Začiatok hodiny alebo lekcie s kľúčovou slovnou zásobou, ktorú študenti uvidia vo svojich čítaniach alebo prezentáciách, pomáha celkovému porozumeniu a udržaniu. V tejto aktivite študenti vytvoria mapu pavúkov, ktorá definuje a ilustruje kľúčovú slovnú zásobu súvisiacu s arktickou / subarktickou oblasťou a jej prvými národmi . Každá bunka bude obsahovať výraz, jeho definíciu a ilustráciu, ktorá zobrazuje význam. Keď študenti definujú a ilustrujú každý termín, osvoja si jeho aplikáciu a uchová si ju ako súčasť svojej lexiky.
