Osiris je bohom mŕtvych a podsvetia, zmŕtvychvstania a občianske zákony. Často je znázornený so zelenou kožou, faraónovým vousom a podvodom faraóna.
Osiris bol syn Geb (zem) a matice (neba). On zdedil trón faraóna a priniesol právo, poriadok a zdvorilosť Egypťanom. Vzal bohyňu Isis ako svoju kráľovnú a spolu dve božstvá priniesli krajine veľkú prosperitu. Jeho brat, Set, žiarlil o jeho úspechu na tróne a bol žiarlivý, že jeho manželka Nephthysová sa maskovala ako Isis a nechala sa otehotnieť Osirisom. Set sa snažil zbaviť ho tým, že ho utopil v rieke Níl, čo je to, ako Egypťania predstavujú každoročné povodne Nílu, ku ktorému dochádza každý rok. Aby sa Isis nemohla zbaviť žiadnej mágie, aby obnovila svojho brata, rozdelil Osirisa na malé kúsky a rozptýlil ich po celej zemi.

Dieťa Nefthyho sa nazývalo Anubis a po smrti svojho otca prevzal Duata (podsvetie).
