Nullification is when a state has a right to get rid of any law that is unconstitutional. In 1828, they nullified the Tariffs because Southerners deemed it unconstitutional. It was mainly a biased choice.

American's forced Native American's to relocate away from their homes. They traveled by foot in the cold. Many of them died and suffered from disease, starvation, and cold. They lost 2,000-6,000 people on the trail. Hence the name "Trail of Tears".

Secession Since tariffs were never lowered, South Carolina wanted to leave or succeed from the US.

Sectionalism Citizens have argued that tariffs were an act of sectionalism. They were made to protect industries in the North but it made taxes higher and people in the South couldn't afford them. Southerners called it "Abominable Tariffs" because they thought it was unfair that the government favored them that way.
