  • North and South
  • Hi, I'm from the north and I love the Protective Tariff because it will help the US economy grow. We have a lot of factories and we sell lots goods and make more money becayse of the protective tariff.
  • Hi yall, I'm from the south I hate the tariff it doesn't help us at all except the north because we buy imports from Europe so it makes it more expensive for the south to buy manufactured goods.
  • Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun
  • I'm John C. Calhoun and I represent South Carolina we are all super mad about the tariff and we refuse to follow it.  We don't like how it doesn't support the south and now we have to pay more to get goods from different places.
  • I'm Andrew Jackson and I think the tariff is a great idea it will help us grow.
  • Doctrine of Nullification
  • South Carolina doesn't like the protective tariff, Congress and President Jackson just recently passed we think it is unfair and not right we would like to make a nullification saying we reject the federal laws and we don't have to follow the don't have to follow them.
  • Hmmm really.
  • In this part of the cartoon, the north loves the protective tariff that Congress passed they are making more money off their manufactured goods and thinks it will grow the US economy. The south, on the other hand, hates the tariff they want nothing to do with it, and they hate having to pay more on imports from Europes' goods.
  • Compromise Tariff
  • I'm Henry Clay and  after South Carolina made the Tariff of Abominations I authored the Compromise Tariff of 1830.
  • John C. Calhoun and the people of the south hated the tariff and wanted nothing to do with it especially South Carolina they even wanted to separate from the US. On the other hand, Andrew Jackson the president loved the tariff and thought it would be good for the US, and so he forced South Carolina to stay with the US he made them like the tariff because he didn't want the nation to fall apart so he did everything he could.
  • The Force Bill of 1830
  • I think South Carolina should just go along with the Federal Government I think we will have to send the US army.
  • We agree as well.
  • South Carolina didn't like that tariff at all so they had to make a nullification that we will reject the federal laws and powers at the time Andrew Jackson didn't appreciate what South Carolina did.
  • Conclusion
  • I feel like Congress has finally got South Carolina to cool down and from now on they will agree or go along with the law.
  • The Compromise Tariff by Henry Clay and John Calhoun it was made to be a resolution for the nullification. Henry Clay adopted it mainly to gradually reduce the rates for southerners so they could buy manufactured goods cheaper from foreign countries.
  • The force bill was passed by Congress while Andrew Jackson was in office. Its main use was that if South Carolina didn't agree with Congress they would send the US army and have to force them to go along with it or agree to it. So if South Carolina never went along with they would have to use brutal force.
  • In the end, both Congress and South Carolina both felt like they won. Also, they both felt like got what they wanted.
  • I agree I think South Carolina finally got what they wanted they may not always agree with Congress but they will have to work with it.
