Storyboard Text

  • Act 1
  • March 1981: Baba and Amir are being smuggled out of Afganistan and into Peshawar because Afganistan is not safe during the Taliban rule.
  • Act 2
  • Last week?
  • Bismillah!
  • Thud
  • If you knew this, why did you bring us here?
  • uugghh!
  • Even in the most serious moments, Amir can't contain himself.
  • My brother Toor won't be able to take you all to Peshawar. His truck's engine blew the week before and we're still waiting on the parts.
  • The driver of the truck, Karim, pulls over so that Amir does not stink up the vehicle. Afterwards, they continue on the journey until they reach the checkpoint at Mahipar.
  • Ewwwww
  • Are you ok?
  • BLAAAAHHH!
  • My apologies everyone. My son has a weak stomach.
  • I hope he's ok.
  • I'll tell you why. Because he got paid for his leg of the trip. That's all he cared about.
  • Karim gets out of the car and exchanges a few words with the soldiers. One was Afgan, and the other was Russian. The drunk Russian soldier peered into the truck. When he saw the woman in green sitting across from Baba and Amir, he asked to have a half hour alone with her.
  • Put him down, Agah, you're killing him.
  • (Mumble)
  • It's what I intend to do.
  • Everythings alright Amir.
  • This guy looks like trouble.
  • It's his price for letting us pass.He says ...he says every price has a tax.
  • Please, Mister Soldier Sahib! Have Mercy!
  • The Russian soldier pointed his gun at Baba and a shot was fired-- by a second officer who was older than the first. The officer apologized for his comrade and let them go. Baba did not flinch one bit.
  • Please Agah. I beg you. Don't hurt him anymore.
  • Baba, sit down please!
  • There is no shame in war. I'd enjoy putting a bullet in you almost as much as...
  • Haven't I taught you anything!
  • I'll take a thousand of his bullets before I let this indecency take place.
  • I want you to ask this man something. Ask him where his shame is.
  • I can't believe that just happened
  • THUMP
  • What was that?
  • Baba doesn't allow himself to feel gratitude from the strangers because he knows that this action doesn't erase his past sins.
  • (In between kisses) You are such a kind and brave man.
  • Thank you
  • How long have they been waiting?
  • Two weeks.
  • If only they knew who I truly am.
  • The others.
  • (Mumble)
  • Act 3
  • Baba was more concerned with Amir's future than his well being. He would do anything to keep Amir safe.
  • They arrived in Jalalabad where they were supposed to meet up with Karim's brother and board his truck to Peshawar.
  • I can't afford to turn back now. I have to continue for Amir.
  • The truck is beyond repair, but there is another option. My cousin owns a fuel tank, and all of you can fit in it.
  • We can't take this anymore. We won't be joining you.
  • Allah, please save us!
  • (Gasp)
  • Everybody climbed into the fuel tank. People began to moan and cry out as the fumes consumed them. Baba rose halfway up the later then dropped back down to the ground.
  • Baba couldn't believe that this was happening. He is upset that the one chance he had at protecting his son -- was gone.
  • I can't breathe!!
  • ( cough .gag)
  • Baba didn't want to admit it, but he too was afraid. He would clutch that box of dirt tightly to give himself hope.
  • It will be awhile before my feet touch the ground again, so I'll take some dirt with me to keep me sane.
  • As Baba saw the life fading from Karim's eyes his grip got tighter. Even though he was committing a sin by stealing a life, he didn't care because he felt betrayed
  • Baba couldn't continue to choke Karim while the woman he just saved begged it to stop. It would dishonor him if he continued.
  • I'm sorry that this light is all that I can give you Amir. I hope it gives you some comfort.
  • Baba knew that this time was different. He knew that Amir's fear wasn't exaggerated because he felt it too.
  • I can't do this anymore; mainly, because she asked me to stop.
  • Waaahh!
  • Shhh!
  • Think of something good, something happy.
  • Baba wanted Amir to think about literature. At least it would take his mind off the long journey ahead.
  • THUMP
  • The basement of the house would become their home for the next week and they would later discover that no truck was coming to get them.
  • Shorawi!
  • Waaahh!
  • Shhh!
