  • Hey? whats going on ??
  • Get on your knees, don't make any sudden movements!
  • France had three estates. Clergy was the first, the nobility made up the second, and the third which was made up of bourgeoisie. The third was the poorest and was the only estate forced to pay taxes. So in 1789 the estates general had been called for a meeting find a solution for the unfair taxes. In the end King Louis Xvi had not made a single change.
  • I am king now! I want all the power!
  • NO! Please, let me go!!!
  • Get him executed by the guillotine! Off with his head!!
  • The third estate had then been locked out the estates general. The third estate had then took action and gathered on the tennis court to discuss what they would do. They named themselves the National Assembly & came to the conclusion that they would remain there until they got a new constitution that revolved around John Locke idea of life liberty and property. King Louis refused to sign it.
  • How dare you challenge the king, come with me !
  • What did you say ?! Kill him!
  • You're wrong, I don't agree..
  • King Louis sent his army to surround Paris, and people started to feel way. The people started to rebel against the government. Men went to the prison of Bastille, broke the prison down, stole their weapons, and got stronger. However people began to starve from a lack of food. Their next move was to storm into the palace of versailles and they put the king and queen under house arrest.
  • Please don't do this, l'll do anything!
  • Kill him now! He's greedy!
  • Shortly after the chaos died down, people felt that they needed a new king. A man named Robespierre put himself in charge and sentenced the king to death by the guillotine.
  • Anybody who challenged the king or disagreed with him was sentenced to death. Robespierre was a greedy leader and just wanted more power. He didn't care to help his people, only himself. This was a violent time period called the reign of terror. Violence is what triggered them to create the committee of public safety, which protected their people.
  • As time passed, Robespierre didn't grant his people liberty. He did not give no one a say or right to an opinion. So this left his people with no choice but to kill him.
