- Xavier: Is Cassie's match and one of her friends. He helped Cassie hide Ky's artifact. Helps Cassie come up with plans like when the officials came.
- Cassie: Main character of the story. Knows a poem that shouldn't have ever been seen. Is learning from Ky in secret to write. She feels conflicted if she likes Xavier or Ky. Enjoys physical activity and has a permit to do more then others.
- Ky: Has helped Cassie learn how to write. Has showed her his secrets, like she has with the poem to him. Is an abortion because of something he didn't do, so he can not have a match.
