  • Whats wrong, Is everything okay?
  • She cannot see me! She cannot hear me either! When ever I yell she doesn't cry, move or blink! Do something!
  • I am not sending another letter just to see you sad again!
  • I say the asylum is best.
  • Please.....
  • Oh come on Keller! This might be our chance. I have heard great things. Helen needs help.
  • May I take your bag?
  • I can carry it myself. So is this Helen?
  • Yes, this is our wonderful Helen.
  • I have finally managed to have you fold your napkin and eat with a spoon. I have also managed to make a mess of you, myself, and the dining room.
  • In the beginning Helen Keller is just fine. One day she comes down with a fever that turns her blind and deaf. Kate and Captain Keller are extremely upset and confused when this occurs. Kate is the first one to figure this out. Kate was trying to coddle with Helen but Helen would not blink. Then Kate would yell her name and wave all around but nothing happened. They Keller's called many doctors and tried many times to help but no one could. They even gave up with disciplining Helen. They spent lots of money and Kate was hurt many times with the bad news that their daughter was essentially hopeless.
  • Six years have gone by and there are no answers. The Keller's are trying to decide whether to send Helen to an asylum for mental defectives or to have the Perkins Institute send someone to help. Kate and Aunt Ev want to have someone come. James and Keller think it is a waste of time and that nothing will change. Keller wants the best for Helen but he also doesn't want another disappointment for him and Kate. After lots of argument they decide to try one more time with the Perkins Institute. They send a letter to them and now Annie Sullivan is coming down to Alabama to help.
  • C..A..K...E spells cake. It has a name Helen and a meaning.
  • Annie has arrived in Alabama. She is not what the Keller family was inspecting. She was very young and stubborn. She had no pity on Helen. She went straight to work on her. Helen was very uneasy about her. She didn't want to learn. Helen was not used to having to do things even if she didn't want to.Captain Keller despises Annie and wants to send her back. Kate on the other hand wants Annie to stay and see what happens.
  • Yes Helen! Wa, Wa means water!
  • Wa, wa!
  • Annie has started right away with teaching Helen. She is starting out with discipline. It was morning and everyone was eating. Helen however, didn't sit down in her chair or eat with a spoon. She didn't use a napkin and she would reach and grab everybody else food off their plates. She would just walk around and eat whatever she liked. The whole family would just let Helen do this. But when Helen came to Annie, Annie took Helen's hand away from the plate. Again and again this repeated until Annie and Helen were full on wrestling. Annie realized this was going to take awhile and kicked the rest of the family out of the dining room. The two of them fought and fought. Helen kicked and screamed. Then Helen finally ate with a spoon! Then she spit it out on Annie. Annie then poured water on Helen. After much more time Annie was finally able to get Helen to eat with a spoon and fold her napkin. When Annie told Kate, Kate was crying with joy! The Keller's decided to give Annie another chance with teaching Helen.
  • Annie decides that it will be better for Helen to depend on her. Annie thinks that Helen and her should move into the garden house. That way Helen will have no distractions. It took Annie a really long time to convince the Keller's but they finally gave her two weeks. Annie knew it would be difficult, but she accepted the offer. As soon as they could, they started moving in. Helen had no idea where she was. Once they got settled, Annie started to teach. Annie would spell into Helen's hand using sign language. Helen would imitate the words with her hands but she never understood what they meant. Annie was able to teach Helen discipline. The two weeks were up. Annie was happy Helen learned manners but she was disappointed in herself. She wanted Helen to learn language. Annie knew that if Helen went back home, she would go back to how she was because her parents would pity her. Annie tried to convince the Keller's to let her stay for another week but they said no. Annie and Helen would have to move back to the house. Annie was very upset but she went anyways.
  • When Annie and Helen got back to the house, it was dinner time. Helen got everything she wanted because it was her special day. The Keller family was extremely excited about Helen coming back. When they started eating, Helen dropped her napkin. Then Annie put it back. Helen dropped it again. Annie knew Helen was testing her so the two of them wrestled again. This made Kate and Captain Keller upset. They told her to let Helen be but Annie didn't listen. Then Helen splashed the pitcher everywhere. Angrily, Annie took Helen outside to make her refill the pitcher. When Helen started pumping, she felt the water and said, ¨WA, WA!¨. Then Helen spelled water into Annie's hand. Helen learned what water meant and she said it! Then the light bulb went off. Helen went around the yard feeling everything and Annie would spell it into Helen's hand. Helen was so excited and same for Annie. The whole Keller family is overjoyed. Then Annie takes Helen's hand and spells, ¨I love Helen forever and ever.¨ Helen had finally learned how to understand language and words.
