The Persian wars started when King Darius of Persia, wanted to conquer Greece. The first of the wars was at Marathon.
Persia had about 90,000 men, while Greece only had 10,000 to 20,000 men.
Persia had archers, but they were useless against the Greeks strong metal shields.
We'll be back..... and in larger numbers.....
While the archers were shooting at the Greeks, the Greeks thinned out their formation and extended the lines to be able to attack all of the Persian warriors.
The battle of Marathon was won by the Greeks. According to legend, 6,400 Persians were dead, and only 192 Greeks.
The remaining Persians fled back to Asia, but next time, they would be back in greater numbers.
