Storyboard Text

  • What is a period and why does it come?
  • A period, also known as menstruation, is a cycle girls and women go through every month, some girls start getting them as young as nine or ten, others starting at the age of sixteen.
  • Its purpose is to prepare the body for a baby to develop inside, building a lining of blood around the uterus. An egg comes from the ovaries down the fallopian tube, and stays in the uterus.
  • If the egg isn’t fertilised and you aren’t pregnant, all of the blood that has built up in the uterus comes out. You can use pads and tampons to catch the blood, and period underwear for extra protection.
  • Periods can also come along with cramps, headaches and sometimes mood swings.
  • Thank you so much for telling me all of this, I feel really confident and good about getting my period now!
  • No worries! I'm always here to talk!
  • You can learn techniques for dealing with those symptoms like meditation, talking to someone, using panadol and exercising, as well as eating healthy.
