You have a treaty with us!
The French have a treaty with the Americans that states if the French are at war the Americans need to help them.
I propose that we make a new treaty.
The Americans made a treaty with the French but it was thrown off because their king and queen were executed by the people. That meant that the Americans don't need to fight with the French.
That would work.
The French needed the Americans to fight with them and people were volunteering to fight in the war for the French but george washington would not let them.
It could help us avoid war.
Jay proposed that we should make a treaty that states that the Americans had to pay debts for the British merchants and the British had to pay for damages to american ships.
George washington like the idea of it but the people did not. They did not want to pay for British merchants.
George Washington also thought that this treaty could help against war because we would both pay for the damage of the Revolutionary war. George washington signed the treaty in 1795.
