- 1765 Dear Journal, Daddy has been very worried lately. He said something about the King in England taxing us. Something about sugar, and having to pay soldiers. I wonder what he means? He left earlier this morning. I hope he's fine. Sincerely, Johnny

- 1775 Dear Journal, My father has told me I am old enough to fight, so he helped me sign up for the militia. I was sent to Concord with plenty of other citizens, some I recognize from my childhood! We just got news of the British victory in Lexington. We cannot allow that! It is time to fight, to fight for our freedom! Sincerely, Johnny
