  • Smiths were very important in the war. Although there were male smiths, some smiths were actually female. A smith's job was to create weapons for the army, which is a very important part in the war.
  • Many women were nurses during the revolutionary war. However, being a nurse meant that the women were exposed to deadly ailments such as smallpox. The army also preferred female nurses rather than male nurses because it meant that they could have more male soldiers fighting.
  • The army did not allow woman to actually fight in the war. Due to this, many women disguised as men in order to fight in the war. A famous example of this is Deborah Sampson,the first known woman to disguise as a man in the revolutionary war.
