Solids don't have any space or gaps. So this means they don't move at all. When heat is added to a solid substance, the molecules move faster and the space between them increases though.
When you heat a liquid its kind of the same thing when you heat a solid. Because the molecules expand and take up more space, they are more scattered around. Also liquid does not fill up the space of the container just like this beaker that was boiled.
