  • Nurses became more present as the war continued and more soldiers sustained injuries. Many of the nurses were women who were looking for a way to support themselves while their husbands were at war. These nurses often did the cleaning and cared for the patients while the surgeons treated them for their wounds.
  • Women who became spies worked for both Britian and the colonies. There were few groups willing to let them help, so some decided to work alone. Multiple women helped the colonists gain useful information by eavesdropping on British meetings held in their homes. Many created ways to secretly deliver the messages to avoid the risk of death.
  • Soldiers for the American revolution had to keep their identities hidden to fight for their freedom. If the men found out that her alias were not accurate, she could be jailed or hung. Women often fought fiercely for their independence and helped the colonists win multiple battles. Despite the risk of death, women still faced the bitter winters and harsh conditions of the army.
