  • 1. Food is another thing to be maintained in an ecosystem. In class you might have learned that animals produce 12 amino acids and we need 8 essential ones from other resources as our body doesn't produce them.
  • 2. A marine biologist can observe the diet of an organism and can test for disease or other complications and how to treat it. For example, if a turtle is not getting its essential amino acids but is rather eating plastic and falling ill.
  • Also similarly to us, through the metabolic processes, of glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, Krebs cycle, and ETC marine life are also able to create energy in the form of ATP which can be observed and give insight to how a species functions and differentiate between species. Plant life uses photosynthesis, the light dependent cyclic and non cyclic pathway and the Calvin cycle for ATP.
  • Does marine life code for proteins the same way we do?
  • Does anyone have any questions so far?
  • 1. Majority of eukaryotes do. In class you may have learned that three nucleotides code for codons which code for amino acids. Polypeptide chains which are multiple amino acids joined together are used to create proteins and are the genetic makeup of a species.
  • 2. Marine biologists test and analyze certain species DNA to get a better understanding of their genetic makeup and how they function.
  • 1. There are also genetic disease that come from point and frameshift mutations which causes an organisms genetic makeup to be abnormal leading to disease. Marine biologists test for cures for these diseases.
  • 2. Sadly, there are more diseases than just genetic ones. Diseases can develop in the urinary tract and by sampling an organisms urine we can detect these diseases and find ways to treat them.
  • A lot of these diseases and issues come from humans polluting the ocean and the many ecosystems that make it up.
