Storyboard Text

  • The earth was the strongest planet alive 4.5 years ago and was mostly made up of hydrogen and helium and blew it's atmosphere away by the help of super solar wind.
  • H2O
  • The earth man was developing a new power a magnetosphere. The magnetoshpere would give Earth man protection from super solar wind.
  • CO 2
  • NH3
  • Earth man saw a great deal of change, Earth mans atmosphere became more complex and over time O2 levels climbed and climbed to present day levels of ≈ 20%. After that life appeared on earth, Oxygen showed up, photosynthetic bacteria existed, Oxygen got a boost from photosynthetic algae arrival
  • Earth man Basically controled our modern atmosphere - dominated by the N & O pair. Oxygen was important to the production of ozone. Ozone protects the surface from the full force of ultraviolet radiation. Ozone made his mark in the beginning of land based life and made earth mans atmosphere better than ever.
  • Troposphere: Very unstable layer - convection dominates here. Mr.Weather controls weather in this layer. It also contains the majority of the mass of the entire atmosphere. Stratosphere: Vary stable layer. In the middle of the stratosphere Ozone is the dominant gases. As the Ozone absorbs UV radiation the molecule breaks apart and releases heat allowing temperatures to rise. Mesosphere: Varies in thickness. Does not absorb much solar radiation. This layer protects us from meteors as they burn up when hitting this layer. Thermosphere: This layer blends into. While conventional thermometers will not record the heat it reaches temperatures of 1800° C. This is because there is not a large enough volume of gas to strike the thermometer registering the heat. However, the O2 and N2 convert solar radiation into heat, releasing electrons at the same time (in a process called Photo-ionization). Air here is very thin with 0.001 % the density of air at sea level. Ionosphere: This layer is between ≈ 60 and 400 km, so it includes all of the Mesosphere & the lower portion of the Thermosphere. It is where all the free electrons and ions shot at us from the sun live. They bounce into each other causing the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. This layer also reflects back radio waves. Exosphere: Beyond 400 km - Blending of atmosphere into space.
