Storyboard Text

  • The Elections
  • I'm sorry Mr. Jackson, but you did not "win" the election.
  • Why Me!?
  • Corrupt Bargain
  • If I let you become president, you must promise me that you will let me be secretary of state.
  • Very well then, but this better work.
  • The Landslide
  • Heh Heh. You have know idea.
  • Well, it looks like you both ended up getting what you have wanted.
  • Hooray!
  • During the election, Jackson ends up winning most of the votes. Unfortunately, no one won the majority, or more than half, of the electoral votes.
  • Jackson as a President
  • As president, I will make everything better, by changing what needs to be fixed.
  • Henry Clay and Jackson make a deal with each other so they can both get what they want. Henry wants to be a secretary, and Jackson wants to be a president.
  • The Tariff Debate.
  • How could you do this!?
  • In the end, Jackson became president, and Henry got to be secretary.
  • The Effect of the Tariff
  • Okay okay, I will. Just please don't hurt me.
  • I love my job so much.
  • Now that Jackson is a president, he made a couple of changes. The right to vote changed during the 1800s. In the 1820s, many states relaxed the property requirements for voting allowing white male sharecroppers to vote, and more.
  • In 1828, Americans disagreed about the tariff—a fee paid by merchants who imported goods. North and South were in a disagreement about the tariff. Everything was going to chaos. Jackson declared in 1830 that the federal union should be preserved.
  • I must do what its best for the people.
  • After Jackson had made Congress a Force Bill to force Southerners to pay for the goods, South Carolina then nullified the Force Bill.
  • PAY UP! Or else.
