Storyboard Text

  • Good morning everybody, I am Ezra and I am Jewish.
  • Go on, kiddos, introduce yourself to the class.
  • My name is Raj and I am Hindu. It's nice to meet you all.
  • I am Isaac and I am Christian. I hope we have an amazing year together!
  • What is 9 x 9?
  • It's 81!
  • It is the first day back at Spring Day Elementary School and there arrives the three new high-achiever grade 4 students of different backgrounds.
  • The homeroom teacher, Mr. Peterson encourages the boys to introduce themselves before he begins to teach Math, their first lesson of the school year.
  • I'm the fastest at running!
  • We'll race then and I'll surely win this!
  • When Mr. Peterson asks a math question, Ezra, Raj and Isaac immediately raise their hand up to answer the question.
  • I can't believe it was a draw!
  • They were upset because they simultaneously said the correct answer. Somehow because of this, they suddenly got competetive toward each other.
  • I'm going to finish this first!
  • The next subject is gym and yet again, the boys competed against one another.
  • I bet I can run even quicker!
  • Why is it always a draw amongst all three of us!
  • I have to practice eating faster!
  • In the end, the race was a draw and none of the three boys outran each other.
  • That was so close, I thought I was going to win but Isaac was just right beside me!
  • Well my religion is the best compared to yours anyway.
  • I would have to practice running more to beat you guys!
  • It was time for lunch and the boys were eating their food. They eyed each other and began to eat as fast as they could.
  • Then again, none of the boys won against each other.
  • Isaac resulted to bring up his religion and boast it.
  • What did you say?
  •
  • Cross
  • Chi Rho
  •
  •
  • Isaac said, "My religion is better because we have the coolest place of worship called a church. Not only does it have the best structure on the outside, but it also has a splendid interior design! Various community activities can even be performed in the building."
  • Isaac continued explaining, "I also just want to mention two symbols that we have: a cross and Chi Rho. A cross is the reminder of Jesus Christ, who is partly the centre of our faith. In some crosses, Jesus is placed to remind us the sacrifice he experienced to forgive sinners. A Chi Rho is the ancient “sacred monograms” of Christ. It was developed by Christians in the past to convey their secret faith with one another.
  • "I have two favourite artifacts called a chalice and a bible. A chalice is an item used in a Eucharist. It is used to contain the wine that worshippers drink from during communion. It can be made of gold, silver, pottery and is sometimes designed with Christian symbols. The bible is a book consisting of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Worshippers think that through the writing and sayings of the Bible, God is speaking and teaching them."
  • Ezra decided to boast about his religion and said: "The synagogue is a Jewish place of worship and is also used for study and prayer among Jews. The interior design is better than the one in church!"
  •
  • Ezra continued, "There are two symbols I would like to introduce. The star of David is a six-pointed symbol with 2 triangles that represents the Jewish identity. The Hamsa hand is an ancient Middle Eastern symbol that symbolizes God’s hand. It apparently brings happiness, luck and health."
  •
  •
  • "The aritfacts that are important to our culture is a Hanukkah and a skull cap. The Hanukkah is a 9 branch candlestick that celebrates the temple rededication. The skull cap is used by worshippers to show the Jewish faith and respect. It is apparently also used as a reminder that there will always be a barrier separating God and the worshipper."
  •
  •
  • Raj then began to talk about his religion and said, "A mandir is designed to represent the cosmos and worshipper’s connection to God. It also consists of grids that are made of squares, triangles and other shapes."
  •
  • Raj explained, "A Hindu swastika is an ancient symbol that means well being and good fortune. The swastika is the representation of the four stages and directions of life, hence the 4 lines/arms of the symbol. It is not be confused with the Nazi symbol. The Om/Aum symbol is to represent the ultimate and one supreme God."
  • Swastika
  • Aum
  • "The sacred bell is made of metal that is used to attract a deity during a worship. The Ganesha statue(murti) is a deity that is worshipped by Hindus. Ganesh is the god that can remove all obstacles. He is the one who can change worry and path to success."
  • Listen, Ezra and Raj. I'm really sorry for bringing up my religion to compare which one is better. I think that all religion stands uniquely on its own.
  • I'm sorry too... Let's be friends?
  • Mr. Peterson confronted Isaac, Raj and Ezra, saying that there is not a "better" religion. The boys listened to his advice and began to understand each other.
  • Boys! That's enough! I heard all three of you bickering about your religion and saying that your religion is better than the other. Remember the golden rule that you should treat others the way you want to be treated. All we have to do is respect everybody's beliefs!
  • The End.
  • I'm sorry for getting all competitive as well. I just feel the need to defend myself when I feel upset.
