  • Aleppo - 2012
  • Kurdistan, Aleppo, Neirab - relation
  • Kurdistan
  • Aleppo (Neirab Camp)
  • Kurdistan and Syria parallel struggles
  • We seek asylum because of our struggles of our strict authoritarian rule and the unjust killing of civilians!
  • The first issue Muhammad and Rashad struggle with is the government's obvious effort to kill innocent citizens who may not even be protesting. Muhammad and Ahmad decide the best plan would be to try and blend in with the crowd and find others also seeking asylum.
  • Aleppo - 2012
  • Muhammad and Ahmad aren't the only ones seeking asylum in Neirab. Neirab is also one of the largest refugee camps in the area, and in Kurdistan there is similar violence to Syria. Instead, this conflict is about Kurdistan's fight for independence.
  • 5km from Neirab - 2012
  • Only 5 kilometers till Neirab! How long have you guys been traveling?
  • For some backstory, both of these conflicts have been going on for decades in both nations. However, both of these conflicts have escalated and caused a major influx of refugees seeking asylum elsewhere.
  • Uh oh...
  • Sorry but it looks like your travels might end here. We're not who you think we are.
  • We seek asylum because Iraq does not recognize our independence and is against our fight for independence. They will do anything in their power to stop us from becoming a state.
  • While on their travels Muhammad and Ahmad run into two Kurds also seeking asylum for aforementioned reasons. They decide to stay together to have safety in numbers and flee each of their own violence in their countries. The Kurds have also traveled much farther and likely have knowledge that could benefit all of them.
  • Muhammad and Ahmad are excited to have knowledgeable people who are going to Neirab with them and who have gone through similar struggles. Little do they know they might not have the people they thought they did to tale them to the home stretch of their journey.
  • We've been traveling for around a month but we're so happy to finally flee our terrible situation and government back in the heart of Aleppo!
  • Oh no! The so-thought Kurds who Muhammad and Ahmad trusted to take them through the last stretch until the refugee camp were spies for Assad and the Syrian government! What will they do!
  • You just spoke negatively about the great Syrian government and we're here to properly take care of people like you...
