Jerome's father was walking along a street in Naples when a pig fell on him. In the poorer quarters of Naples they keep pigs on their balconies. It grew too big on the fifth floor and the balcony began to break causing it to fall on jerome's father and kill him
The Main Conflict of how Jerome was trying to explain the story of his father's death and everyone began to laugh at him. Mr. Wordsworth explained the story to Jerome but he couldn't stop himself from laughing. It made him very sad because he didn't think it was funny
He grew up to learn that people can't help laughing when he tells the story about his dad. Jerome switches up the story every time someone asks about his well known father, he explains it in a way where it doesn't cause people to laugh. Jerome fell in love with sally. She didn't take the story about his dad's death as a joke and he loved that.
The theme of the story is to ignore the ugly realities which are apart of life. Focus on the good rather than the bad. Don't let others opinion make you
