  • In the beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes place, a long-standing hatred between two families erupts into new violence, and citizens stain their hands with the blood of their fellow citizens. Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide. Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their parents' feud.
  • Falling Action
  • "What if it be a poison, which the friar Subtly hath minister'd to have me dead".
  • Juliet in her confession of love to the heavens and the night is overheard by her lover himself, and he comes to her call. In this, the famous balcony scene, the lovers plan marriage.
  • Resolution
  • Come, bitter poison, unsavory guide! You desperate pilot. Let's crash this sweary ships into rocks! Here's to my love.
  • Tybalt strikes Mercutio a last revengeful blow and then runs off. The blow is fatal and the death of his friend awakens Romeo to revenge

  • The Friar suggests a daring secret by which Juliet should take a drug that will make her appear dead for forty-eight hours. This will relieve her from her marriage to Paris and will afford an opportunity for Romeo to take her shortly away to Mantua.
  • Romeo and Juliet both die, which ties up their personal plotline. The larger issue of the feud between their families is resolved by having Montague promise to pay for a statue of Juliet and Capulet promise to pay for a statue of Romeo.
