  • Barbarians came and attacked Rome. They eventually succeeded and killed Rome.
  • Western Europe After Rome Falls
  • No one living in Europe from the fifth to fifteenth century thought of themselves as living in the "middle age". The Middle Ages began as soon as Rome fell.
  • When Rome fell, they formed new kingdoms that were based on the political development in the Middle Ages.

  • However, Rome and it's culture didn't disappear overnight, for example the Roman Theatres.
  • It took centuries for Germanic peoples to migrate into Europe and change it.
  • This was the slow bending transformation of Roman civilization, Germanic culture, and Christianity. This was part of the larger Mediterranean-wide period called "Late Antiquity".
