  • Alexander Hamilton called for representatives to meet in Philidelphia
  • We need to discuss our central government!
  • Edmund Randolph offered up plan called the Virginia Plan
  • They kept this very discreet. They kept the doors locked and windows closed. They didn't want this interrupted, or anyone else to be involved.
  • George Washington led the convention.
  • The delegates also discussed the issue over whether or not slaves in the south would count as a thing or as a person.
  • The South wanted the slaves to count as people.
  • The North didn't want them to count as people .
  • The Virginia plan said that the government would have three branches. These branches were the legislature, executive, and judiciary.
  • They had successfully come up with plans for the future of America!
  • Both plans offered things that were good ideas. They came up with The Great Compromise. This included ideas from both plans.
  • William Peterson also presented the New Jersey plan.
  • The New Jersey plan said that there would be one house.
  • They came up with another compromise. Each slave would count as 3/5 of a person.
  • They discussed many issues, but these were just a few.
