  • Because of Lyddie's economic circumstances, she wears unkempt clothes.
  • "A Crow Among Peacocks"
  • Lyddie was most intrigued by the Oliver Twist- the book Betsy had read to her one night. Lyddie enjoyed the book so much, that she bought it for herself. This shows that Lyddie wants to learn. •Page 84
  • "I'm not you girl"
  • Your my prize girl, Lyddie.
  • I'm not your girl. I'm not anybody's girl but my own.
  • When Mr. Marsden tried to take advantage of Lyddie, she made sure she defended herself. She stomped on Mr.Marsden foot and ran away. •Page 129
