Storyboard Text

  • Why is she crying? This movie is so phony.
  • Maybe he's a flit himself
  • When are you going to grow up, Holden?
  • While Holden waits for Carl, he goes and watches a movie . The whole time he's there, he complains about how much he hates actors. He starts thinking about a woman that was sitting next to him and how she was crying. The phonier the movie got, the more she cried.
  • It's so late, why am I even calling her?
  • The movie Holden was watching was about the war, so he starts to think about the time D.B. was in the army. He thinks about how much his brother hated the army, but how he made him read a book about it. He doesn't think he could stand being in the army
  • What am I going to do? I broke Phoebe's record.
  • Holden and Carl finally meet up and talk about people who were "flits" (homosexuals). Carl then starts asking Holden when he plans on growing up because they're having a "typical Caulfield conversation about sex.
  • I wonder if I could go inside without my parents knowing...
  • Holden is really drunk, so he decides to call Sally, despite it being the middle of the night. He tells her that he is planning on lighting the Christmas tree with her on Christmas Eve.
  • After Holden leaves the bar, he walks to the park, and drops Phoebe's record, breaking it into pieces. Upset about dropping it, Holden starts daydreaming about getting pneumonia. He is reassured that his parents wouldn't let Phoebe come to the funeral if he died.
  • Holden contemplates on whether or not he should go home early because he misses his sister, but doesn't want to see his parents. Finally he decides on sneaking in to say hi to Phoebe.
