- Oedipus's father is dead, and so Oedipus assumes that the prophecy is null, because he did not kill him. He is called to rule two kingdoms now.
- Polybos has packed the oracles off with him underground. They are empty words. (55-5)
- The people of intend to call Oedipus there king (30-1)
- It is revealed to Oedipus by a shepherd that he was was adopted into Poybos's royal family, and that his true father was his cities previous king, who he killed on a road in a fit of rage, not realizing his status. This fulfills the prophecy of him killing his father and marrying his mother.
- It was true. All the prophecies (63-4)
- No man living is more wretched than Oedipus (65-3)
- I do not know what words to offer you. You were better dead than alive and blind. (135-3)
- Oedipus's wife commits suicide, and Oedipus stabs out his own eyes. He regrets attempting to avoid the will of the gods and his friends morn his exile.
