Storyboard Text

  • Esther, before you go you must remember one thing. You can not tell anyone you are Jewish.
  • *sigh* I know
  • Dear God, give me the strength to do Your will.
  • This woman, Hegai, shall be my Queen. Her beauty surpasses all others, inside and out.
  • Esther was a young, beautiful Jewish woman living in exile in Persia. Esther's cousin Mordecai is persuading her to enter the palace against her own will. Mordecai wants Esther to go so she can win the beauty contest and be chosen as the King's bride. Even though Esther had no desire to go, she didn't want to refuse Mordecai.
  • "No, that's too long to wait and far too public a place"
  • "It is best to do it while he is sleeping. Perhaps we could bribe one of the servants."
  • Esther would have to spend a whole year at the palace before the King chooses his bride. On her first night at the palace, Esther prayed to God that she wouldn't be chosen as the king's bride and that she would be able to return home once the year was over. Esther was happy at the fact that Mordecai would be able to visit often because he worked at the palace as a minor official.
  • Thank you, Esther. You have saved my life.
  • The year had gone by fast and Esther stilled missed her home everyday. She tried her best to stay cheerful and kind and was upset by the way some of the girls treated each other. Esther was placed in the care of Hegai and they quickly became friends. Hegai placed Esther in the best room and gave her small gifts. Finally, it was time for Esther to see the King.
  • Mordecai sighed as he knew how hard on Esther it was to keep her secret of being a Jew, although he did like being able to see her almost everyday. As Mordecai was pondering, he overheard two voices. They were the voices of two of the King's men, Bigthan and Terish. Mordecai's eyes widened as he realized they were talking about their plans to kill King Ahasaerus in his sleep the following night.
  • Mordecai immediately went to Esther to tell her what he overheard. Esther knew she must tell the king even though she would look like a fool if she was wrong. King Ahasaerus was shocked and upset when Esther told him what his men were planning. The king then told several guards what Esther told him and sent them to find the servant his men were going to bribe and ask if it was true. The servant confirmed Esther's story.
  • Mordecai was outside observing the people when he heard a loud trumpet noise. This meant that Haman,a court official, was here. Mordecai was unhappy about this because Haman always made people bow to him and Mordecai would only bow down to God. Haman was furious and decided to tell the King that there were Jews in the palace who did not respect the laws. This made the King angry as he did not want another plot on his life being made. Haman said he had a plan to get rid of him and the King gave him his blessing to do as he pleases.
