- The city of Ember randomly assigns jobs. Doon draws a messenger job and offers to trade with Lina for her sewer job.
- I don't want this!
- Today is Assignment day!
- Congrats for making it through 12 years of school.
- I grow plants.
- Yes!! Electrician
- Will Lina trade?
- Taylor?
- Oh, no not a sewer worker.
- Lina finds a mysterious box with a paper inside. She thinks it may help the people of Ember start a new life in a new city.
- Are these instructions?
- Zzzzzz I love candy zzzzz
- With Doon's help, Lina figures out that the paper is instructions on how to exit the city through the sewers and river.
- LET'S TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THE WAY OUT!

- Lina is captured and yelled at by the mayor for spreading rumors about leaving Ember.
- How can I get out of here?
- I am going to lock you in the prison room if you don't behave.
- Doon, Lina, and Poppy go inside the Pipeworks to escape Ember. The boat ride is rocky and scary at first.
- AHHHHHH!!!!
- After traveling down the river they discover that Ember has actually been underground this whole time.
- This place is beautiful!
