Storyboard Text

  • So, you're probably wondering how I got here. It all started a while ago today:
  • I was at my crummy dead-end job photocopying something, and out of nowhere I get this blinding pain in my intestine.
  • It started to hurt a lot, to the point that I felt I was about to pass out, so I was sent to the hospital by my co-workers.
  • I was wondering what that machine was that they used to examine me with. It looked like an x-ray machine but those are for bones, this one wasn't.
  • I was curious right?! And I bet you are too, so I asked the doctor.
  • I found out that it's used for imaging of the body and like an x-ray machine it uses x-rays but for things like lumbar punctures, biopsies, arthrography, and in my case, barium x-rays.
  • What's up Doc? So what was up with that x-ray looking machine? Why'd it show my intestines?
  • Well, it's called a fluoroscopy machine, it produces a real-time image of your body and the organs using x-rays and a bunch of stuff I won't get into
  • Barium x-ray is used to examine the gastro-intestinal tract for abnormalities like ulcers, tumors, or conditions like polyps, hernia, and/or strictures.
  • As you can see, I obviously felt that if I found this sooner in my annual check-up, I would've avoided all of this. But these machines are big and expensive, maybe if more money was invested in making them more accessible to patients in clinics and with higher resolution, there would be fewer people in my predicament. Maybe with my next crummy paycheck I'll invest some money in fluoroscopy.
  • A large polyp, I wonder how long that's been growing? The doctor said it had to be big to be this painful. If only it was caught earlier, I wouldn't have been in this much pain, or had to have an operation to remove it
  • The End
  • What are you still doing here? it's over, the comic's over, go home.
