My name is Dorris, I'm 9 years old and I got a bad case of the mumps.
Mumps is a virus that is gained through infected saliva. This saliva reaches another person through various ways: coughing, sneezing, sharing utensils, kissing, ect.
This all happened when I went over to my cousin Freddy's house, and shared a glass of milk with him. I was unaware that he had mumps a few weeks ago.
I was very weak and tired, my face was swollen and it hurt when I ate food.
At first I didn't have any symptoms, but a week later I began to get a fever. About 3 days later I got very tired and my cheek started to swell; because of this I wasn't able to chew anything. About a week later the swelling went down and I was back to normal!
This was when me and my Dad went to the doctors.
Your daughters immune system will create antibodies which will help fight off the infection, it will most likely take about a week for her to be fully healed. Until then make sure that she doesn't share any utensils or anything so that the virus doesn't spread.
