El Cristo Rey
Victor goes to El Cristo Rey to decide if he should go to El Norte. This is a very big decision which will not only affect victor, but also his family. Since this decision will also affect his family Victor becomes worried and unsure. When a priest gives him enough money for the bus. He believes it is an omen from god to help him decide.
Silao is the closest central hub for Victor. Since his village is not "up-to-date" this is where Victor gets all his news. Silao is also where Victor's family was robbed many years ago on their way to El Norte, and a priest helps them by giving them bus fare to Los Arboles. This is why Victor takes the priest giving him money at El Cristo Rey as an omen. Silao is also where Victor starts his journey to El Norte. On the bus he will meet his "lone wolf", a man named Miguel, who will turn out to be an amazing companion on Victor's journey.
he first time Victor goes to Nogales, it is the closest he has ever been to El Norte. But Victor has no idea of how to reach El Norte. Him and his new friend Julio were planning to go through the water tunnels, but gangs have taken them over. With nothing left, Julio and Victor don't know how to get to El Norte. Julio being a risk taker, decides to float to the end of the tunnel on an inner tube on a rainy day. Victor stays behind, regretting it, and meets his lone wolf, Miguel.
Victor is deported back to Nogales after making it all the way to Wilcox, AZ. Victor needs to get back to El Norte somehow so that he can send money home to his family. But with Miguel captured, and having no money, he has no idea what to do. While getting his food at the soup kitchen, Victor is reunited with his best friend Rico. With Rico, Victor is able to restart his journey to El Norte.
After almost dying several times, Victor and Rico are euphoric to reach Reynaldo's house in Tuscon. Upon their arrival, Victor and Rico find out Reynaldo has fled with his family because the government found out about his illegal car business. With nowhere to go, Victor and Rico become extremely dismal. As a last hope, Victor and Rico arrive at La Perra Flaca for work.
Dayton is where Victor starts to work for his family by growing asparagus. He is finally able to accomplish his goal of working in El Norte to financially support his family. After working long and hard in the fields, Victor is able to send 250 dollars back to the Western Union in Silao for his mother. This makes Victor extremely proud and happy. Rico had been acting weirdly ever since Reynaldo's house, since he had an epiphany. He decides it is his job to care for his parents, so he should go back to Los Arboles. Victor is left alone, but he is making new friends and Rico finally understood his duties, so Victor is content.
