Storyboard Text

  • The Nisqually Indian people lived in an undistributed habitat, during their era, they referred to themselves as Squall-absch's. They often lived in extended families, in home's made from cedar.
  • Hi were the Nisqually people we live in extend families.
  • We made clothes out of cedar bark and deer furs gathered during the summer trek.
  • The Nisqually people sustained them selves, by providing clothing, food and shelter for themselves. Women made baskets and fashioned mats. While the Men caught salmon.
  • Nisqually people lived close to an outlet that kept one of their main food sources salmon. In the river they could hunt the salmon at any time of the year. They often used wooden weirs built around the river to capture them.
  • Catching salmon in the river is a never ending job for the menfolk of the village.
  • The Nisqually people hunted deer in the foothills or prairies. They often used lassos to capture their targets. They also hunted goats, bear, and such.
  • We use every part of the animal. We dry the hide and put it on racks. Then its tanned to make clothing.
  • In the foothills the Native Indians gathered all sorts of berries such as salmon berries, black berries, and many more. They often used the berries with water to make juices. The mountain Tacobet often controlled the weather nourished the lands of the Nisqually.
  • We use bows and arrows to hunt mountain goats, coyotes, and even bear.
  • It seemed like the Nisqually got a lot out of meadows. They often got food such as animals roots and leaves of the bake fern, wood fern, dandelion, wild sunflower and the tiger lilly. Some of the roots were eaten raw while others were blanched in a basket of hot water warmed by hot rocks from the family cooking fire.
  • We depend on the warm, wet climate to nurture the foods of the earth.
